I have always enjoyed the laconic humour and understated intelligence of David Brooks when i have caught him (usually on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon on PBS News Hour). in this TED talk, he presents a flurry of research insights and ideas that he believes informs a hopeful path for not only politicians and public policy, but also the other major organising influence of our western world, the corporate business organisation.
The significant feeling I have after listening to this is hope, hope that there are enough people in different positions (of power and otherwise) and in different places that meaningful change might not only be possible but indeed might in fact be occurring as i type this.
I reflect too on the work that I am doing by creating this business, and the purpose I allow myself to have beyond the rational confines of making money and offering a service that people might want to buy. And when I reflect on these things I also feel hopeful.
David mentions or alludes to many of the concepts I have been studying over the last decade or so, and enacting with the various individuals, organisational systems and industry sectors with whom I have been working. I am, in this moment, feeling rather humble about all the ideas and concepts he mentions that I know little about and feel moved to go find out more. I am hopeful my motivation lasts long enough to put 'paid' to at least a few of these.
What makes you hopeful?

Hi Brent,
Thank you for sharing this message of hope. It is true that there is a shift in conciousness (at least I see it amongst my friends and colleagues) and this talk confirms that it is beyond my own scope of reference which leaves me feeling motivated and confident about the future.
I was wondering if you have a reference for the research that David is referencing to? Is there a link to a page or paper I could get hold of?
Thanks again.
Ciao

david's research

thx for your note Claudio - i do not have a simple 1 pager etc wrt David's research - i am guessing he has a book or two, perhaps one coming out soon - and the other option would be to look up the authors and researchers he mentions in his talk one by one... a bit tedious perhaps but probably worth the effort in helping you form your own view of this very interesting field.
